All I could do was continue to look at the ground. After months of prayers, the nurse gave me the news I was dreading to hear. I’m pregnant. 28 years old, unmarried, living alone, and now Pregnant. However, after letting it sink in for a couple minutes, I accepted my new chapter in my life. I told the child’s father and he was ecstatic. We tried to get back together for the sake of our child and be a family, but after a few months we realized it would not work between us. So hear I am, starting my new life as a single mom. Not scared, but I I was actually excited for this new path in my life. Here are some tips for single moms out their:
1.) Practice all the FW principles– People think in order to follow The Fascinating Womanhood principles you must be married. Well women of all ages and backgrounds can follow Fascinating Womanhood. These principles in my opinion can make life’s challenges easier when applied correctly.
2.) Have a support system– If you live far from your family, gaining a support system of friends is great for when you need someone to watch your children, check in on you ,and be a listening ear to you and your problems. It very Important that when you move to a new area to develop and form friendships with your neighbors and people in the area. Make friend with people of all ages.
3.) Show appreciation to your children (don’t make them think they are a burden) – Children are the important and loving individuals on this planet. Children love to please others, especially their parents. It is important that as a parent to admire and show appreciation to your child. This helps grows the child’s character. It’s defiantly important to do this if you have gone through a divorce because sometimes children blame themselves for the separation of mom and dad. Continually explain to them that it not their fault and that you and dad love them.
4.) Take time for yourself- With you watching the children on you own, working, and taking care of the house, you are defiantly going to be stressed. It good to take time for yourself and relax from the daily stresses of life. Even if it is an hour a week, you can benefit from a little relaxation. Get a cup of tea in a café, get you nails done, or take a nice warm bubble bath with some soothing music. Self-care is not just important to you, but you children as well. A well mom is a happy mom.
5.) Don’t be afraid to get out and date- I highly recommend however not to bring any dates around your children unless you are in a very serious relationship and/or engaged to the gentlemen.
One last thing I will leave you with is this, enjoy your children. These moments while they are young are to be treasured and to be looked upon with sweetness.
